ADVANCED ORTHODONTICS INTRODUCES VIRTUAL APPOINTMENTS

Remote treatment monitoring reduces in-office visits and speeds up total treatment time

March 12, 2020 (Burien, WA) – Advanced Orthodontics announces the addition of remote patient treatment monitoring in its three Seattle-area practice locations: Bellevue, Burien and Kent, WA. The goal of this new patient-focused service is to reduce the frequency of office visits, give doctors even more data on treatment progress, and reduce total treatment time.

Powered by Dental MonitoringTM, this innovative treatment option allows patients to take weekly photos of their smile via an app on their smartphone. Dr. Barton Soper reviews the detailed images to track the progress of treatment in real time. He connects with patients by text message for any adjustments that are necessary or if he feels that an in-office visit is indicated.

“Patients still receive a personalized treatment plan from an orthodontic specialist after an in-person consultation and the appropriate records are taken,” says Dr. Soper. “Most importantly, they’ll still receive the highest level of care from our team, just without as many in-person checkups.”

With COVID-19 circulating in the Seattle area, virtual appointments allow for patients to take extra precautions regarding their health and abide by guidelines for self-quarantine and social distancing, which are important tools in managing disease transmission. The American College of Physicians issued a statement to this effect, urging greater use of telehealth tools to combat community spread.

“At Advanced Orthodontics we continually refine our orthodontic treatment process to ensure our patients achieve the best possible results, in a way that best fits their lives,” concludes Dr. Soper. New patient consultations can be conducted virtually too! If you or a family member have been considering orthodontics- we will meet you where you are. Simply click here to start.

Stickables, The Newest Accessory for Your Child’s Smile

If you’re a parent of a 6-9 year old, you’re going to want to know about Stickables. They’re the newest release by Invisalign – the leading manufacturer of clear orthodontic aligners – and your kiddo is going to be interested.

While many parents come to our practice with teens, we (and the American Association of Orthodontics) actually advocate having your child seen by age 7.  Why? At this early age, a trained orthodontic eye can spot development and, in certain cases, begin treatment that will ease and shorten your child’s overall need for orthodontic work.

But, getting back to the point: What are Stickables??? Stickables are fun stickers that are specifically designed to decorate your child’s Invisalign aligners. They’re non-toxic, totally safe, and super fun! Below are some of the reasons we at, Advanced Orthodontics, love them too:

  • Our youngest patients can have fun customizing their aligners to show off their treatment and new smile
  • Stickables give kids a sense of control and autonomy in their treatment
  • They allow you, the parent, to embrace your kid’s unique style – strengthening your relationship during the difficult tween years and increasing their self-confidence.
  • Less commitment – more style.
    • Remember the fun of picking your bracket colors for halloween only to wish they were something new come November? Stickables can swap out with each aligner – 2 weeks tops!
    • And, unlike colored bands on brackets, your child can swap out their designs on their own, as often as they’d like!
  • Harder to lose – not quite invisible means these aligners are less likely to get tossed in a napkin at the lunch table and subsequently trashed.
    •  Translation for grown-ups: less money spent on replacement aligners
  • Bottom line: Invisalign stickables makes wearing aligners fun!

At Advanced Orthodontics, we are always working to create a fun environment where we build real relationships with our patients and their families. Your child’s self confidence along with a healthy smile are of utmost importance – it’s one of the reasons we love Stickables.

If your child is approaching their 7th birthday (or if it’s already passed) and their smile is begging for some stickables style – contact our practice. We offer complimentary consultations – virtually or in-person – and will build a customized treatment plan based on your child’s needs. We have flexible financing and low down payments. We can’t wait to meet you!

Invisalign First – Now Available For Kids as Young as Seven!

A clear solution for our littlest patients

At Advanced Orthodontics, we highly recommend having your child seen by an experienced orthodontist around their 7th birthday. Why so soon? Early orthodontic treatment isn’t for everyone but in specific cases, a child comes to us with moderate to severe orthodontic issues that just can’t wait for later treatment. This is referred to as Phase 1 treatment and it happens before all of a child’s permanent teeth have erupted.

However we know it’s hard to imagine your little one in braces at such an early age. That’s why we’re excited to tell you that Invisalign is now an option for our younger patients in need of Phase 1 treatment! The same impressive Invisalign technology adapted for children who have mixed adult and juvenile teeth, who are  7 to 10-years-old.

The benefits are clear

The technology has the same benefits Invisalign has always offered: no food restrictions, no change in brushing or cleaning, and less chance of emergency visits. We know your child’s health is precious – this technology was extensively tested prior to release and our orthodontic specialists have found it to be a great tool for early orthodontic treatment.

No goop, no worries!

At Advanced Orthodontics, we utilize state-of-the-art, iTero® digital scanner, which is used to take 3D impressions on each patient, allowing us to permanently retire that uncomfortable, gooey, impressions material that is typically used. At the same time, it provides more precise information for better fitting appliances and enables shorter appointment times.

Complimentary Consultation Advanced Orthodontics in Burien WA

When’s The Best Time for Your Child’s First Orthodontic Visit?

We’re often asked about the best time to have children evaluated for orthodontic treatment. The challenge is that (as we all know!) every child is different. However, a good milestone is around age seven, when the jaw is developed enough, and there are enough permanent teeth for an orthodontist to tell if there are any current issues… or any that may pop up down the line. Advanced Orthodontics, Dr. Matthew Stout makes sure to offer complimentary consultations for all of his patients to be sure that if early treatment is indicated, we focus on it at the right time.

At Advanced Orthodontics we’re so focused on Orthodontics and Oral health for kids 7 and up that we’ve nicknamed early treatment “OO7!” (Be sure to visit our Facebook page for some OO7 fun!)

Benefits of Early Treatment Include:

  • Preventing Overcrowding: Traditionally, orthodontists may wait until age 12 or 13 to treat a crowding problem, but the problem isn’t going to get any better by waiting. Through early treatment we can regulate the width of the upper and lower dental arches, creating additional space for permanent teeth. This can decrease the need for permanent tooth extractions, reduce the likelihood of impacted permanent teeth and can even help correct abnormal swallowing or speech problems.
  • Preventing Crossbites: A crossbite is when you close your mouth and some of your upper teeth are sitting inside your lower teeth. A trained eye can see early on if a crossbite is in the works and will be an issue as the rest of your child’s permanent teeth come in. The earlier treatment begins, the easier it will be because your child’s jaw is less developed at this early age and can be guided along the right path rather than working to reverse issues at a later age.

  • Simplifying Treatment: Early treatment (Phase 1), when indicated, can simplify later treatment (Phase 2). Children who undergo early treatment often have a much shorter second phase of treatment once their permanent teeth come in. This makes life easier for both of you as their schedules get busier and busier.

Dr. Stout will assess your child’s individual needs during the first consultation. Concerns such as crowding, large spacing, problematic facial growth and bad habits, such as thumb-sucking, cheek-biting, or tongue-thrusting are taken into consideration. Afterwards, he will determine your child’s custom treatment plan, if necessary.

Dr. Stout truly loves working with patients of all ages and building relationships while creating beautiful, confident, healthy and personalized smiles. He believes one of his greatest rewards is the first time a patient sees their smile in the mirror after treatment. You will love getting to know Dr. Stout and working with him and the Advanced Orthodontics team to achieve your amazing smile!
